Service description
A well-designed seating layout balances capacity, sightlines, accessibility, and flow. We survey your floor plan, model multiple layout scenarios, and recommend the arrangement that best serves your specific use — whether that is a corporate boardroom, a 400-seat event hall, or a sanctuary. Deliverables include scaled drawings and a written rationale.
01Who Needs a Professional Seating Layout
Any venue that brings people together in rows, rounds, or clusters has a seating layout — but not every layout has been designed. Facilities managers, church administrators, event coordinators, and office planners often inherit arrangements that were set up once and never revisited, even as the use of the space has changed around them.
We work with organizations across Calgary that want to make the most of the floor area they already have. Whether you are reconfiguring a corporate boardroom after a renovation, preparing a banquet hall for a new licensing category, or trying to fit more worshippers into a sanctuary without sacrificing comfort or safety, a properly modelled layout delivers results that guesswork cannot.
02What the Survey and Modelling Process Involves
Every engagement begins with a detailed floor plan survey. We measure the room precisely — noting columns, doors, emergency exits, fixed fixtures, and any level changes — so that the layouts we model reflect the real space, not an idealized version of it. If you already have accurate CAD or PDF floor plans, we can work from those, which reduces the timeline and cost.
From the survey data, we model up to three layout scenarios to scale. Each one is tested for sightlines, aisle widths, and the flow of people entering, moving through, and leaving the space. We also review accessibility compliance against Ontario Building Code standards and flag egress path widths against the Ontario Fire Code, so conflicts are identified before anything is purchased or installed.
03Deliverables You Can Actually Use
At the end of the engagement you receive scaled PDF drawings for each approved scenario, accompanied by a written rationale explaining why each arrangement was chosen and what trade-offs were considered. These are documents your staff, contractors, and architects can work from directly.
If your venue hosts different types of events, we can design two or three named configurations — for example, a banquet layout and a theatre layout — and document each one so your team can reset the room quickly and correctly without guesswork. Each additional scenario beyond the standard three is available at a clearly stated additional cost, listed in our price schedule.
04Accessibility and Safety Are Built In
A seating layout that ignores accessibility or egress is not a finished layout. We review every arrangement against Ontario Building Code accessibility requirements as a standard part of the engagement, not an optional add-on. Aisle widths, turning radii, and accessible seating positions are checked and documented.
Egress paths and exit access are reviewed against the Ontario Fire Code. Any conflicts between a proposed layout and code requirements are flagged clearly in the report, with notes on how to resolve them. This means you go into any permitting or inspection process with confidence rather than surprises.
05Spaces That Serve Many Purposes
Calgary's community halls, church halls, and event venues rarely serve a single purpose. A space that hosts a wedding reception on Saturday may need to function as a community meeting room on Tuesday and a seated dinner on Friday. A layout that works for only one of those uses is a layout that creates work every time the room turns over.
We design with flexibility in mind, documenting multiple named configurations so that your team has a clear reference for each setup. This reduces errors, speeds up room resets, and ensures that every configuration has been checked for safety and flow before it is ever used.
06Local Knowledge, Scaled Drawings, Real Results
Pastor Chairs Consulting knows Calgary's venues — the older halls with irregular footprints, the newer event spaces with flexible partition walls, the sanctuaries with fixed pews and heritage interiors. That familiarity means we ask the right questions early and avoid recommendations that look good on paper but do not suit the building.
We are a local team with a stake in how well Calgary's gathering spaces function. When a community hall runs smoothly, when a church can seat its congregation comfortably, when an event venue can turn a room efficiently, the whole neighbourhood benefits. That is the kind of outcome we work toward with every layout engagement.

Frequently asked questions
Can you work from existing architectural drawings?
Yes. If you have accurate CAD or PDF floor plans, we can work from those and skip the on-site measurement phase, which reduces the timeline and cost.
Do you account for fire-exit and egress requirements?
Egress path widths and exit access are reviewed against the Ontario Fire Code as part of every layout engagement. We flag any conflicts in the report.
What if we want to rearrange the space for different events?
We can design two or three named configurations — for example, a banquet layout and a theatre layout — and document each one so your staff can reset the room quickly and correctly.
